New Group Name and Next Study Begins Sept 16th

Standard

Ladies,

I’ve really enjoyed our group meetings on Thursday evenings, and I look forward to starting those back up again on September 16th. However, we will have two changes to the group.

  1. We will now be known as the Thursday Evening Group
    • The Sisters in Spirit Group will revert back to how it was when it was initially begun. It will be a gathering of Catholic Women for the purpose of Prayer, Fellowship, and Learning instead of a weekly bible study. St. Athanasius’ Formation Team is already lining up great speakers and activities for the SIS group. More information to follow!
  2. The Thursday Evening Group is open to women AND men. So, feel free to invite your husbands or other male friends who would be interested.

The Thursday Evening Group will meet on Thursdays, beginning September 16th from 6:30PM – 8:00PM at the Parish Center, Room A. We will view Bishop Robert Barron’s video “Seven Deadly Sins, Seven Lively Virtues” and discuss the accompanying study guide information and questions. I expect for us to complete this study prior to the Thanksgiving Holidays, if not sooner.

Please let me know if you are interested and I will send you a link to the study guide if you do not already have access to it on Word on Fire Digital (accessed through Flocknote) where it is located. Furthermore, Debbie Minton or I will be making copies of the study guide for everyone at no cost to you, so do not worry about printing one off for yourself or buying a copy. We do need to know how many to print, so let us know if you plan on participating in this study.

I hope you can join us!

Blessings,

Angie Poole

Additional Information regarding “Daniel” Study

Standard

Ladies,

For those participating in the “Daniel” study, please insure that you have your study guide purchased. The in-person Thursday evening SIS/Mom’s Bible Study group and the online Life Giving Bread group are both using “Ignatius Catholic Study Bible: Daniel” by Scott Hahn and Curtis Mitch. If you do not already have this study guide and would like for us to order you a copy, please let me know ASAP. If you are purchasing it on your own, here is a link to it on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Daniel-Ignatius-Catholic-Study-Bible/dp/1586177931/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=ignatius+catholic+study+bible+daniel&qid=1617806240&sr=8-1.

The Life Giving Bread online bible study group will begin the “Daniel” study on Sunday, April 11th, and have all next week to read that week’s material and then login and post their comments to the study questions.

The SIS/Mom’s Bible Study’s first in-person meeting will be next week, on Thursday, April 15th. We will be meeting in the Parish Center, Room A. For those of you participating in this group, please read the “Introduction to Daniel” and chapters one and two (pages 13-21) PRIOR to the 15th. In addition, please look over the discussion questions located at the back of the study guide on page 47. If you have never used an Ignatius Study Bible before, I suggest that you also read the “Introduction to The Ignatius Catholic Study Bible,” pages 7-11.

The answers to the Questions for Understanding are typically within the notes at the bottom of each page for that verse, verse group, or term. However, the answers to the Questions for Application are typically more subjective or personal. Those are the ones that we will discuss at our meetings, since that’s where I think we can grow and nurture each other with our responses.

I am considering incorporating the movie “The Book of Daniel” into our Thursday meetings. It does not contain all of the Book of Daniel according to the Catholic Church, but it does help with the understanding of what is taking place within most of the scripture. For those who are not attending the Thursday meetings or for those who would like to view it on their own, this movie can be viewed on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjadL20AGdo

Here are links to some information I located regarding the Book of Daniel. This is not required reading/viewing, but I wanted to offer it to you in case you have the time and want to further your understanding of the book of Daniel. Feel free to share with me and/or the group any information you come across that will help us in this endeavor.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Blessings,

Angie (502)435-3483 cell

SIS study to begin Sept 5th!

Standard

Blessings Ladies!

The summer is winding down, at least for the kids, and it is time to start thinking about starting up our SIS group again. Our next study will begin September 5th. It is a 6-week bible study using the book Growing in Faith by Fr. Mitch Pacwa. You can view some of the book’s pages and see what it is about on Amazon.com. https://www.amazon.com/Growing-Faith-Catholics-Including-Reflections/dp/1612787932/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=growing+in+faith%2Cpacwa&qid=1565023268&s=gateway&sr=8-1

I have already read through the book. It is a good book, very timely with the New Evangelization effort, and I’m definitely interested in working through it. The sessions in the book each are short, about 10-16 pages. However, it does require looking up bible verses to do exercises related to the session’s topic, which entails reading from one’s own bible. It is truly a BIBLE STUDY. I hope this study is acceptable to everyone.

Keep an eye out for additional information in upcoming St. Athanasius Church bulletins.

After the “Growing in Faith” study, we will then go through and discuss the 6-week book study Gaze Upon Jesus, which is the Advent equivalent of the one we did for Lent, Walk in Her Sandals. I expect we can finish this book prior to Christmas, during the Advent season.

Please let me know if you have any comments or questions. I look forward to seeing everyone soon!

Blessings,

Angie

HAPPY EASTER everyone!

Our first meeting to discuss “Who God Is and Why He Matters” is this Thursday, April  25th.  We will meet in the Parish Center Room B. Please read Lesson One in the study guide before the meeting on Thursday (It may take a bit to read and answer the questions, so please allow yourself plenty of time).  We will watch the corresponding video and discuss the study questions during the meeting.

Have a blessed Easter week!
